St. Elizabeth of Hungary (July 7, 1207 – November 17, 1231)
Canonized: May 27, 1235 by Pope Gregory IX
Feast Day: November 17
Patron Saint of Widows/Widowers, Bakers, Young Brides, Nurses, Hospitals

Saint Elizabeth was a young bride and a young widow. After her husband’s death, she is said to have professed vows as a Third Order Franciscan. She is known for opening a Franciscan hospital in Marburg, Germany, where she cared for the sick. Elizabeth of Hungary was proclaimed a saint only four years after her death by Pope Gregory IX in 1235.
