Today is the Feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord. Many cultures celebrate today as “Little Christmas”. The day commemorates the revelation of Christ to the Gentiles, namely the Three Wise Men/Kings/Magi.
Each Wise Man brought a gift to the Christ Child. Gaspar (or Caspar), King of Sheba, represents the gift of Frankincense. Melchior, King of Arabia, represents the gift of Gold.
And Balthazar, King of Tarse and Egypt, represents the gift of Myrrh. The Biblical account of the Magi can be found in Matthew 2:1-12.
How will you be celebrating the Epiphany? We celebrated over the weekend with a King Cake (Galette des Rois) from Sook Pastry Shop in Ridgewood, NJ.
