I’m a big fan of Chef Michael White‘s food. He has a way of turning the simple ingredients of Italian cuisine into something very special and worthwhile. His newest New Jersey restaurant is an outpost of his Nicoletta Pizzeria. The menu itself is typical of a classic pizzeria (pizzas, chicken wings, salads), but the flavors are far from typical.

Last Friday, I served my first Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Traditional Latin Mass) for the Votive Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Maywood. It’s only the second time in close to 50 years that a Latin Mass has been celebrated there.
Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Carnival, Carnivale. Whatever you happen to call it in your culture; it is traditionally a day of gluttony and gorging on goodies before Ash Wednesday tomorrow. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, which is a penitential liturgical season that leads up to Easter and the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a day of obligatory fast and abstinence for Catholics. Also each Friday of Lent is a day of abstinence from meat binding for all Catholics.
