Memorial Day 2015

Land of the Free because of the Brave

Today as we celebrate Memorial Day with barbecues, visits to the beach or pool, shopping, etc., let us keep at the forefront of our minds the reason why this holiday exists. It exists because of the ultimate sacrifice paid by many of our servicemen & women.

On Memorial Day, I often reflect on the verse from the 15th Chapter in the Gospel of St. John. It reads, “Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13). The men & women of the armed forces, police departments, fire departments, etc. who protect our country & our cities from all types of threats place their lives at risk for us. Let us remember them today. God bless.
