Today is the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi. It is the day when St. Francis passed from this life into eternal life. Many Franciscan communities mark today with prayer services. This evening we attended a Transitus Service at St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Paterson.

The service consisted of hearing the account of the passing of St. Francis along with prayers, blessings, and beautiful music.  Following the service, the congregation enjoyed desserts and conversation sponsored by the Secular Franciscans of the parish.

Today also marks the one year anniversary of the passing of Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR. He was one of the founders of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. It’s a blessing that he passed away on the same day that St. Francis did. Requiescat in pace.
